I know this can be done with an expensive stencil or could be figured out using a Silhouette or Cricut, but I wanted to show you how this Lazy Susan could be jazzed up with some painter's tape and paint. It takes a little bit of time, but trust me - the end product is well worth it!

Here's how we did it...

SUPPLIES:

-Lazy Susan

-2 color of Spray Paint

-Painter's Tape

-Razor Blade

DIRECTIONS:

1. Paint your Lazy Susan the desired color. I had painted my black a loooong time ago and realized it was pretty ugly. Decided to paint it a pretty yellow. *NOTE: You can find cheap Lazy Susan's at IKEA.
2. Tape two 1.5 in. wide pieces of painter's tape across the center of the Lazy Susan with a thin gap between them. This gap will be the stripes in your argyle pattern. Be careful not to make it too thin since paint needs to be able to soak between them. *We made ours about 3/32 wide.


3. Next, tape two more pieces of tape in a diagonal pattern with the same gap between them. This will create your centered diamond. Continue taping pieces beside one of the directions leaving a gap between ever two pieces of tape.

4. Then do the same thing along the diagonal tape in the other direction until the entire board is covered. For a place of reference, cut along the gaps in your center diamond and remove the cut out tape. This will give you the diagonal stripes in your very center diamond. Use the tape edges as your guide while cutting. 

5.Using the center diamond as a reference mark off the diamonds that will be removed completely. The first 4 will be bordering all 4 edges of your center diamond. Each diamond will be made up of 4 smaller diamonds 1.5 inch wide. Continue the pattern and mark all the diamonds that will be removed completely. Using a razor blade, cut out these diamonds along the edges of the tape. NOTE: You can stop the pattern at the edge or you can continue it around the side of the wood like we did. 

6. Once your diamonds are removed you then cut out the gaps in the remaining diamonds. Again, this is the striping in the argyle pattern. 

7. Spray paint the Lazy Susan the contrast color you would like. We chose a green color similar to our kitchen paint. Let dry.














8. Once completely dry you can peel away the painter's tape. There may be a few mistakes,  but no worries - it gives it character. :)


I'm SOOO loving my new Lazy Susan.It matches the kitchen perfectly and is just so fun to look at! It makes me smile. :)
