Treat Box Tutorial for Parties

Today I'm sharing one of my favorite party tricks. See, I have this problem.... I love a gorgeous party but don't always have the budget to buy everything I think I need. That's when I put my little mind to work to come up with a solution on the cheap.

I'm sure you've seen the adorable polka dot and stripe treat cups and favor bags sold at so many of the party vendors these days. They add so much style to a party table with their vibrant colors and geometric patterns. But sometimes paying $7.95 plus $5.00 in shipping for 20 bags leads me to look elsewhere.

And that's where the Dollar Tree comes in! My, my how we party girls LOVE the Dollar Tree! One day, shopping on the wedding aisle, I spotted some white favor boxes. I think they come in packages of 12 for $1.00. Not loving the handles, I just decided to cut those off and create some small treat boxes with them. Here's how I did it.

SUPPLIES:
- Package of white favor boxes from the Dollar Tree (wedding aisle)
- Scissors
- Scotch Tape
- Heart cut outs (I used the ones from Shindig's Valentines Printables set)
- Hot glue gun
- Scrapbook paper or the printable papers from Amanda's Parties To Go's party collections

STEP 1: First you'll need to chop off those handles with some scissors.
STEP 2: Then you'll need to assemble the boxes... very easy
STEP 3: Using decorative scissors (mine are Fiskars cloud scissors... I LOVE THEM!), cut down the edge of one sheet of paper
STEP 4: Line up the decorative cut edge of your paper just above the top of your box and measure and mark where you'll need to cut the paper to fit at the bottom of the box.

STEP 5: Cut the paper where you placed your mark so that your paper will fit your box
STEP 6: Tape one edge of your paper to your box and then wrap the paper around the box, creasing at each edge
STEP 7: Once your box is covered, cut your paper to fit the last side of the box.
STEP 8: Tape the paper to secure.

If you'd like you can add a heart cut out to the front of the box for Valentines Day. Now you've got a super cute favor box to fill with candies, popcorn, cookies, or snack mix.

I filled mine with popcorn, Valentines candy corn and Valentine M&M's.
M&M's make everything better!

And for my party table, I attached one of the heart cut-outs from the Valentines Collection with some sweet red and white baker's twine. To add a fun element to the heart, I cut down a white coffee stirrer straw (or you could use a lollipop stick or toothpick) and punched the heart with a small hole punch to thread the straw through. Then I hot glued on an arrow point and tail that I cut from red cardstock to complete the look.

I hope you love them!

Valentines Rocket Favors

I'm so happy to share a guest post I did over at Skip to My Lou last week
with a fun Valentines Freebie, too!

Let's face it, Valentines is pretty much for the girls. If you've got boys, you're probably searching the Valentines aisles for plain-jane commercialized Star Wars or Transformers cards to give out to classroom pals. It seems that everything cute for Valentines is pink and frilly and most definitely "pretty."

Well, the search is over! Today I'm sharing a cute Valentine that even the boys will like. It's a rocket made from a rolo candy roll.
Fun! This project is pretty quick and easy (my kind of project!), and I think could even be altered with rolls of life savers if you didn't want to use the rolos.

With just a few supplies, and the
you and your son can work together to make some sweet classroom treats that he'll be proud to hand out to his best buds.

SUPPLIES:
- Rolo candy rolls (find them for about $.89/each in the grocery store or I've been told many Sam's stores have them $19.99 for 36 rolls)
- Photo paper or brochure paper (can use white cardstock but the photo paper will print much more vividly)
- Hot glue
- Scotch tape
- Scissors
- Orange and yellow tissue paper

Step 1:  After printing your rocket craft files onto photo paper or brochure paper, cut each of the designs out with scissors.

Step 2: Take your orange and white striped rocket piece and wrap it around one tube of rolos. Use scotch tape to secure.

Step 3: Take the blue rocket top piece and roll it into a cone shape. Hot glue it closed, or you may use scotch tape (sometimes hot glue doesn't adhere to photo paper).

Step 4:  Put a generous amount of hot glue at the top of the rolo tube and the place the blue cone on top. Hold until the glue dries.

Step 5:  Cut stacks of the yellow and orange tissue paper into triangular shapes and then cut the wider base to resemble flames. Place 2-3 sheets of your cut yellow pieces on top of 2-3 pieces of cut orange tissue and scrunch the top into a point. Place a dab of hot glue on the point and glue it to the bottom of the rolo candy cylinder. Next put another dab of glue onto the tab of the cloud cut out and glue it down at the base of the rolo candy on top of the yellow tissue paper.

Voila! Cute!

Be sure to put your child's "to" and "from" information on the back side of the clouds before you hand them out to classmates.

And don't forget those sweet girls.... you can make them for the girls in your son's class, too.
I think those girls might be jealous if only the boys got their own rockets and rolos!

I think Life Savers rolls could be used as well as long as you cut down the pieces just a little.

Happy Crafting! I hope your boys love their rockets!

If you love these, you might just love the Rocket Party Printables set, too!

Cupcake Wrap Tutorial

I receive an amazing amount of emails each day and I'm always surprised to hear how many readers want to know more about the how-to's of printables.  CUPCAKE WRAPS are one of those items many people seem to have a little trouble with. So today we're going back to basics... These are so easy and best of all, you can make wraps to coordinate with your other party decor using your own scrapbook paper.

Most of Shindig's party sets come with cupcake toppers to match the cupcake toppers, but if you're not working with a printable set, you can download this
After printing the template, cut the wraps out with scissors and place over a piece of decorative scrapbook paper that matches your party decor. This way you can have any color or pattern cupcake wrap you need.

Today, I'm going to show how to make Cupcake Wraps from a printables set. First you'll need to gather your supplies:

- Printed page of cupcake wraps
- Scotch tape
- Scissors
- Decorative scissors (optional)
- Baked cupcake in a liner

Step 1: Cut your wraps out with scissors
Step 2: Use decorative scissors to make a decorative edge to the top of your cupcake wraps
Step 3: Grab your pre-baked cupcake
Step 4: Wrap your cupcake wrap around the liner of your cupcake
Step 5: Cut off any excess wrap
Step 6: Tape the wrap with scotch tape to secure

So easy! I hope you will all be inspired to make your own cupcake wraps.
